Crappy photo of a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1000, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I’ve taken my share of crappy photos during the time I have been focused on photographing birds but this photo of a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron crapping in flight may be the crappiest of them all.
I was photographing birds at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge one morning last August when I spotted a young night heron flying towards me, I aimed my camera towards the bird, tried to focus and hit the shutter button, I had no idea at the time I was going to get such a crappy shot.
As a bird photographer I am very much aware that I will have good days and bad days in the field and that some days are just plain crappy. August 27th, 2017 was one of those days.
🙂
Life is good. Have a craptastic day!

Crop (crap?) it as a narrow horizontal to just get the bird’s face and wings, and then it’s sensational.
I have a few myself, but this one is exceptional.
I think Jen at iusedtohatebirds.com has the market on these kinds of “expulsionary” photos!
Ha ha. Here I thought you were denigrating your work!
Sure is crappy!!!😏
Smiling broadly.
That’s the best “crappy” photo I think I’ve ever seen….nice job!
Well, I am never going outside again without a hat!!! LOL
At first when I saw the photo without I thought, OH NO it has bailing string stuck on it. I am glad to read it was only poop! Everybody poops!
Speak for yourself…I NEVER POOP…IT’s bad manners and gross…..
Some days you’re the pigeon. Some days you’re the statue. 😱
It definitely put a smile on my face.
Funny! Definitely brought a smile to my day. Thanks!
And they sing for everybody else!
Hopefully he missed you!
HAHAHA!!! some of my days are like that but at least, I’ve never actually been underneath the crap although I’ve certainly felt like it many times! Thx so much for this reality check!
