California Gull blur – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/250, ISO 1000, +0.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Today’s post is going to be short, real short. Have you ever had one of those days when you wake up and all is good and then wham out of nowhere things start hitting the fan? That has been my morning so far.
Back in December when we had practically our only snow storm that month I still went down to my local pond because I like taking birds photos when the snow is falling. When the light is low and shutter speeds are slow sometimes you can create interesting blurred images and although I often don’t intend to take blurs they do sometimes happen.
This California Gull blur in a snow storm was one of those blurs that happened because of slow shutter speeds and low light but I found that I liked the resulting photo and will call it a happy accident. I like how most everything in the image including the falling snow and the gull’s wings are blurred but the face of the gull, its feet, and tail are sharp.
I know images like this one are not everyone’s cup of tea. I like it though.
Life is good.

Beautiful!
Your blurs look sooooo much better than mine do! 🙂 This is a fabulous shot, especially the juxtaposition of a CA shorebird and snow. Love it!
This is one of the most beautiful “blurs” I’ve seen….everything about it works….
I hope your day improves.
The photo captures the essence of the snowy day
love it!
I like the photo too! I had one of those mornings yesterday! Hope everything gets sorted out.
