Head on American White Pelican photo – Nikon D500, f6.3, 1/2500, ISO 320, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Some of my photos make me laugh, I can’t always explain why but in some cases I can. This photo made me laugh when I viewed it on my camera LCD screen and then I laughed again when I viewed it on my computer monitor.
To me it looks like this American White Pelican was doing an impression of a floating, domestic white turkey because when the pelican was facing me nearly head on the length of pelican’s long bill seemed to disappear and the pouch looked more like a wattle.
It just looks odd.

In this photo taken of the same bird you can see the long bill and the pouch that pelicans, brown or white, are famous for.
It doesn’t take much to amuse me some days.
Life is good.

Lol! Wonderful capture! Perspective can be a funny thing. Thanks for the laugh. 😊
A ‘telican’ or a ‘purkey’. And yes, definitely smile producing.
Yes…I started laughing also….nice photo
Wonderful angle. I love all birds but because of working in wildlife rehabilitation I have been lucky to get to know some individuals well. Your photos often remind me of some of those birds and it brings a smile to my face too.
Great photo & it made me laugh too.
