Sub-adult Red-tailed Hawk in flight – Nikon D500, f6.3, 1/1600, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light, not baited
Last month I posted an image of a sub-adult Red-tailed Hawk that I photographed in Clark County, Idaho while I was still camping up there and I wanted to post an image of that same hawk today that was taken not long after the one I had previously posted from the road.
This photo shows the sub-adult Red-tailed Hawk in flight in the glow of the evening light just a split second after it had lifted off from a perch further away. I especially like the great eye contact I captured, the pose, the legs and talons dangling below the hawk and how the evening light make the hawk stand out so well from the background.
Such a handsome hawk!
Life is good.

You caught it all, Mia. The movement, contrasting colors, composition and especially the “call of the wild” in the eyes of the hawk. Thanks.
