Rainy Day Red-tailed Hawk – Nikon D810, f5.6, 1/640, ISO 800, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light, not baited
I shouldn’t complain about the rain we have been having because any rain in a desert is a good thing, but I am getting tired of it and the gray skies that come along with it because it interferes with me getting out to photograph. But this has been a rainy spring.
Plus I haven’t been camping since March and I miss it. I’m trying to make the best of it.
Last year I had a few rainy days while camping up in Idaho and Montana but there were times it would only rain for a bit and then the skies would clear up. I photographed this rainy day Red-tailed Hawk in Clark County, Idaho last year as it perched on an old telegraph pole with glass insulators on it. The hawk didn’t seem to mind the rain.
I need to be more like the hawk.
Life is good.

I’m also getting a little tired of all the rain and cooler temperatures, but as you said, we do need it. Saturday I took a break from the birdshows and enjoyed the ethnic food and the music/dancing from other cultures at the annual Living Traditions celebration in SLC. Then in the evening I happened to see four turkey vultures soaring over Bountiful so gracefully. Some days are better than others, but I agree life is good.
Ha yes, to the hawk and like the insulators as well! So glad we are getting rain, get that fire under control, the size of Prince Edward Island and burning up precious boreal forest not to mention people’s homes and livelihood.Enjoy the camping!
Love those vibrant background colours. And would gladly take your rain.
AMAZING!!! That image really looks sharp and clear, much like the bird in it.
So you want to be more like the hawk??? Somehow I just can’t see you being too happy sitting on top of an old post in the rain!!! 🙂
Beautiful image, Mia.
