Willet in golden light – Nikon D200, handheld, f7.1, 1/200, ISO 200, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 400mm, natural light
This Willet in golden light was photographed at Fort De Soto County Park in April of 2008 and is one of my favorite Willet images taken in Florida. It might not be my best Willet image from Florida but it stirs up memories of that particular morning for me.
I was in the lagoon before the sun came up over the horizon and could see shorebirds resting next to the spartina marsh, I was there as the golden light spread over the birds and when they began to wake up. I can look at this image and feel the sun’s warmth on my back and the warm water of the lagoon gently swirling around me. I can smell the salt in the air and in my mind hear the calls of other birds as they flew over my head. For a little while I was alone with the birds without another person in sight and I recall savoring it all. Just me and the birds of Fort De Soto.
Life is good.

Glorious.
Honey coloured light – and a ‘honey’ of a bird.
Those moments when alone in a beautiful setting with wildlife are magical. I am always envious of Joe Hutto’s cabin and walks in the Florida woods.
What a beautiful image, which combined with the poetic prose of your comments, brings back some wonderful, warm memories on this cold winter morning!
Great shot! I love the way the bird is lit and the background colors are fabulous.
It just woke my senses as well, Mia.
Good Morning!
What a treat Mia! Stunning!
Beautiful image, Mia. Love the Golden Light of the morning.
