Canada Goose calling in the snow – Nikon D300, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 500, +1.3 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light
There is a nice fluffy layer of snow on the ground here in the Salt Lake Valley this morning and it is still coming down!
I think I am as excited as this Canada Goose calling in the snow that I photographed in February of 2013 along the causeway to Antelope Island State Park. Okay, so the goose wasn’t excited by the snow, he was excited because his mate was nearby.
Me? I am excited about the snow. I was so excited I woke up briefly at 1:43 am just to look out the window to see if there was snow. I’m excited about the images I might be able to create with snow on the ground of birds and animals as soon as I can get out into the field.
Life is good.

Woo Hoo.
Enjoy your snow day.
And Patty is so right (as always) about this image.
I love the simplicity of this image, where all detail except that of the birds’ is obliterated by the snow and they are in sharp contrast with that sea of white…he looks triumphant, happy and proud….I think these are such beautiful birds, anyway…..some of my favorites have very simple, muted coloring….
And it’s so beautiful too!! Still snowing here so I am excited as your geese. Enjoy the day, Mia.
Beautiful image Mia
