Ring-necked Pheasant male and Autumn colors – Nikon D200, f6.3, 1/1250, ISO 400, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light, not baited
After a long, hot summer I always look forward to the first day of autumn because it usually means cooler temperatures along with the scenery becoming more colorful as the leaves begin to turn. The reds, oranges and yellows of fall colors have begun to show up here in northern Utah but the temps…
Well… it doesn’t look much like autumn from this 10 day forecast for Salt Lake City. The average temperature here is 74°F for today which means they are predicting that it will be 13° warmer than normal and it doesn’t look like we’ll see “normal” temps until October 2.
It is the hottest year on record and so far I don’t see that letting up.
In fact it feels like Autumn is the new Summer in northern Utah.
Life is good. Right?

Now THAT’S a pretty bird! I actually almost stepped on one last year here in central Florida. Apparently an escaped bird or one left over from an old hunting club that used to be in the area.
Your temps look like ours! Okay, except for those lows. And our humidity is ten points higher than our air temp. But other than that – our weather is EXACTLY like that in Utah!!
‘Scuse me while I wipe the moisture from all my lenses again …..
I so hope you get cooler temperatures. Soon.
Love how the colors in the background match the colors of the bird.
Yes, it’s hot, Mia. Utah can change quickly so hopefully we’ll have a “normal” winter—so needed. Exquisite photo! You are so kind to share your talents with us.
Autumn in Utah. A reay nice thought
