Bald Eagle on ice
Some times during the middle of summer I start thinking about shorter days, brisk mornings, snow and winter birds. I’m not really wishing summer would go away but start looking forward to a new season and the opportunities that will bring.
I photographed this adult Bald Eagle as it perched on ice covering the Great Salt Lake in early morning light in January 2012. I liked the golden light on this handsome bird of prey. I haven’t seen many eagles out on the lake the past few years but maybe that is because the lake has been drying up.
Only a short post this morning because I overslept a bit.
Life is good.

I sure hope the lake doesn’t dry up much more. Thanks for the beautiful image Mia.
Ooooh. I suspect you needed that sleep, and am grateful for the majesty of this image.
That water is so densely salty, i’m surprised it can ice up and freeze. We see Bald Eagles riding the ice flows on the Hudson river every winter, but ,at most, the lower parts are brackish, most of it is fresh water…..
