Chukar in Gold – Nikon D810, f6.3, 1/1250, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Before my recent trip to Capitol Reef National Park and photographing grouse in Wayne County I photographed this Chukar on Antelope Island State Park.
It is a simple image but it is one I found very appealing because of the subject (I can’t resist birds), the setting with the out of focus vegetation and the golden light of dawn. The dried vegetation in front of the Chukar seemed to create a translucent veil of gold in front of and behind the bird.
I have finished culling all the Greater Sage-Grouse images I took in Wayne County, Utah but I wanted to share this image before I post any more of the grouse.
Life is good.

Like the tones and DOF.
truly a beauty … very artistic, Mia!! tweeted
I saw another honey bee today!!! Only one, but better than none at all! It was at another farm stand, buzzing around some flats of pansies.
Images like this are what sparks gold fever.
Thank you.
Just revisiting some of your incredible plant and tree shots…and pictures of the bees. Reminded me of how excited I got in Maine last year at “BETH’S” farm stand, to see live honey bees! I used to see so many, even plant my garden to attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, but have seen NONE in recent years. Saw a few, very few, small bumble bees (none of the bigger ones) and not a single honey bee in years….very scary, very sad….
I have no idea how you got that soft foreground/crisp detail contrast, but find it beautiful!!! Wonderful, wonderful shot!
It is a unique and lovely photo.
Beautiful shot!
This is a sweet shot
Gorgeous!
