A trio of Tundra Swans – Nikon D300, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 500, +1.3 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light
During the winter of 2012 – 2013 there was plenty of snow, very cold temperatures and it seemed that birds were easy to find to photograph here in Northern Utah. One morning after leaving Antelope Island State Park I noticed some Canada Geese and the Tundra Swans along the causeway in a field of freshly fallen snow. The light was low and the snow was still falling but I photographed the swans despite the conditions and I ended up with this Tundra Swan delight.
I wasn’t expecting much from the images because of the low light but I liked the effect of the white Tundra Swans on the pure white snow.
Life is good.

Lovely! That’s one swan I did not see last year. I think last month, you featured a Rough-legged Hawk which is also a bird I would love to observe. Supposedly, there is one down in southern Arizona somewhere but I have yet to find him:) You have wonderful birds and landscape up there. As much as I love the cold, I’m always fearful of driving in it. I remember the ice on the road up on mountains and it’s scary! But you certainly do entice me with your photography!
oh SO cool!!!!!! Beautiful!!!
Ooooh. Our black swans would have nowhere to hide.
Great picture! Thanks 🙂
Looks like a greeting card waiting for a message — very good we all agree!
Beautiful!
Gorgeous! White on white is difficult, but if you nail the exposure as you have Mia, the images can be very powerful. Thank you!
Exquisite image. I find it quite thought provoking. Thank you.
Lovely! Delightful!
Thank you Bev!
