One serious looking Red-tailed Hawk
I love the stare of raptors because they always appear so serious, intense and they have a no-nonsense look to their eyes like this Red-tailed Hawk has. I suppose raptors have to be no-nonsense despite what their eyes look like simply because they are focused on survival. There were times in my life where I had to be that focused too so that I could survive as well so perhaps that is what draws me to the eyes of raptors.
I am going to be on the road not long after this post is published and I hope that I will get a chance to photograph Red-tailed Hawks and more.
Life is good.

Serious look indeed. My eldest brother has that look, but none of the beauty. He can’t fly either. I think the dejected look would be more appropriate to him. And more honest.
Flippancy aside – that is one stunning bird, and photo.
I wouldn’t want to be the object of his scrutiny!
Mia – neat pic. I like seeing all your Red-tails and studying the unbanded tail types as much as the banded types. Also note the pale innermost secondary that people can confuse for a feather from the previous generation.
As the saying goes, “The eyes have it!”….That’s what I call “the laser look”. No wonder they are successful hunters….wonderful image…like flying beside him/her.
It is serious looking, cheers Mia.
