I was able to photograph this Barn Swallow on Antelope Island yesterday as it rested on a rock and as I took images the swallow opened its bill for a few frames. I am not sure if the bird was yawning or calling to a bird nearby but I found the gaping opening of the bill rather funny so I thought I would share this image.
I’ve had some issues to deal with lately so I haven’t had time to reply to your wonderful comments or to post comments on your blogs, I will try to get caught up soon.
Life is good.

It’s actually a great and helpful piece of info. I’m happy that you just shared this helpful information with us.
Please keep us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you all for your comments on this post.
Patty, the swallows build nests under the bridges (2) some of the restrooms, and other outbuildings on the island, they may also build nests on the Visitors Center but I don’t go up there often.
It is funny-maybe it is a young one saying, “FEED Me!”
What a cool shot! Such great detail you can actually see its veins!
Cute little fella. Aren’t we privileged to be surrounded so many beautiful birds – all shapes and sizes. Beautiful image as always, your work is just gorgeous. Hope things are going well!
Fantastic Shot Mia.. It deserves a ‘Wow’ comment from me ;). I try to ration them or I would run out in a week 😉
Great shot, Mia! I usually only see them as they zoom away about 100 miles per hour.
This is one happy camper..absolutely fabulous..
Lovely photo, Mia!
what a beautiful image, so joyous 🙂
Very handsome fella Mia, well captured. 🙂
Thanks for starting my morning with a laugh, Mia. I raised a Barn Swallow once, was even able to snatch flies out of the air then! What happened? Now I can’t hold a spoon without dropping it. They used to build architecturally amazing mud nests under the eaves, against the barn wall. I wonder where they build them on Antelope Island…? I hope your “issues” are minor and soon resolved. Great shot…Funny!
I took a picture of one on Saturday but it’s not near as nice as yours!
Very nice!
