Two days ago I spotted this Chukar on Antelope Island State Park on the edge of the road near the marina, the Chukar was at road level but just beyond the rock there is a slope that drops about 25 to 30 feet. I know I wouldn’t want to tumble down that slope but the Chukars go down that slope as easily as a mountain goat can climb up the sides of Denali.

I do like the setting with the Rabbitbrush greening up in the background and the lichen covered rock. The soft pastels in the image are soothing while the red bill and orbital ring give a nice pop of color.

Thanks all!
Mia, these clowns always make me smile!
You’re right, the pastels and beak and eye ring and background – all combined into a really pleasing composition. Cool birds!
As always, your photographs are stunning, Mia! Excellent clarity.
Totally agree I love the first one with the little bit of color contrast. They are still just lovely birds no matter.
Early May in Philadelphia is such a riot of greens, reds and pinks, and yellows right now, I find the contrast of these soothing photos of the chukar very attractive in a totally different way. Thanks!
