Sandhill Crane in a field of wildflowers
This time of the year I start dreaming about the Centennial Valley of Montana and of the birds that call the valley home during the summer. In my mind I can hear the Sandhill Cranes and Coyotes calling as the mist rises off of the lake. And the pungent smell of Sagebrush as I move past them.
Juvenile Swainson’s Hawk in the Centennial Valley
I know that if I am lucky I will get to see hawks, eagles, owls and falcons. I enjoy seeing the hatch year hawks like this Swainson’s Hawk juvenile perched on a fence post near Red Rock Creek.

And juvenile Red-tailed Hawks warming in the light of the rising sun. Yes, I have Montana’s birds on my mind.
Life is good.

great portraits with nice bokeh on each one, well played mia ☺
Thanks Eric!
Me too, although for the last 2 days the wind has been so fierce that nothing is moving! Good luck even finding a stray hawk!
Sherry, we had horrible winds last week, even chased a friend of mine from Arkansas right out of Utah! He was camping and it was blowing but after he left it got even worse. I suspect we’ll have more later today ahead of a storm front.
This time of year has us dreaming all sorts of dreams. As I write this two cardinals are calling to each other as they nest… I’m stuck in the house but the out-of-doors calls. Yet where I am there are not half the fascinating things to find out there as you have so I’m thankful you share your finds with us wherever you do go.
Thanks Merrill. Spring does make us dreamy. 🙂 The outdoors calls louder now, doesn’t it?
Beautiful work Mia!
Thank you Ricky!
It looks promising and your images as stunning as always.
Montana is a very promising location for bird photography. Thanks for your comment Maria.
Beautiful birds and images, Mia!
Thank you Beverly.
And you are a lucky person, to see so many birds. The Swainson’s Hawk is beautiful, well taken Mia.
I am very lucky indeed, Bob! Thanks much for your comment.
