Chukar in the snow – Nikon D200, f7.1, 1/2000, ISO 400, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light
A simple image from a series of images I took last year of a Chukar calling on a rocky outcropping with a snowy mountain in the background. There is snow in the upcoming forecast and I’m looking forward to it, maybe I will have the opportunity to photograph more birds in the fluffy white stuff soon! Whether that is on Antelope Island, Bear River MBR, Farmington Bay WMA or elsewhere, the birds look great in the snow.

This is a fascinating bird. I read about it yesterday. It has Asian origin with a group naturalizing to the mountains in the 60’s….or maybe this is a different bird? Either way, this would be a treat to see out in the wild:)
Chris, you are right, these did originally come from Asia and have naturalized on the island. You’d love to see and hear them I am sure!
Neat bird and fantastic photo Mia. Love the background .
Thank you Dan, I was very happy with the setting!
I enjoyed the vibrant colors on this one.
Thanks Maria, the natural colors of the bird, rock, sky and snow worked very nicely.
Wow, superb photograph of this very cool looking bird!
Thank you Julie, they are cool looking birds!

Thanks Eric!
What a neat photo, Mia! We have “escaped” chukars up here – the state doesn’t consider them a naturally occurring bird. I’m cheering for snow, too! 🙂
Thank you Tami. The Chukars here have naturalized and I believe they are countable for listers. The snow might happen here tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed.
It’s so beautiful, so close to you, brilliant photo Mia.
Thank you Bob!
Mia, absolutely fabulous..I painted a chukar on stone, and they are beautiful birds..great photo
Thanks Syl, they are lovely birds
The quail in the front yard decided to pin this one up to the side of the feeder 😉 Apparently a distant relative. Really nice image Mia.
Thanks Stu, they are distant relatives. 🙂
Awesome … love it!
Thank you Jim!
Wow, what a fantastic image Mia
Thank you Susan, I loved the setting.
Wow! New bird to me. Fantastic shot, Mia!
Thanks Beverly!
Beautiful image, Mia. I wish we had such birds down here. But I could do without the snow. 🙂
Thanks Bob, Chukars are lovely birds. I’ll take your snow 🙂
