Brewer’s Blackbird female
One year ago today it was slow on Antelope Island, not many birds were close enough to photograph but on the way home I spotted this female Brewer’s Blackbird on some rocks near one of the bridges on the causeway to the island. I like the setting, the bird’s pose with her raised foot and the wispy grass stalks in the background. She made the trip worth it.
The females are not as colorful as the male Brewer’s Blackbird but they do show a tiny bit of iridescence on the tops of their tails.

Hi! Ilove to see close-ups of the birds I saw,but were further away and not get the beautiful full view of them! Thank you for such a good memorable time. love ya 2
I’m glad you get to see close ups of the birds you saw at a distance Mom! Love you too
Excellent capture Mia! Love the vibrant blue background!!
Thank you Tammy.
Mia, I love this. Sometimes there is nothing to film and a Brewer’s is so common. But then we find that common bird against a beautiful setting and SNAP! And it’s funny how that one shot will make the whole trip worthwhile. This is a gorgeous shot. Nicely captured.
Thank you Chris, Brewer’s Blackbirds are common but I think they are also subtly beautiful even more so in a lovely setting.
What a delightful shot..beautiful blend of grasses and the lifted foot..
Thank you Syl.
What an absolute beauty!!
Thank you Kerri.
The bird and setting are quite beautiful! Superb photograph!
Thanks Julie, I really liked the setting too.
Lovely photo and great Blackbird. I was wondering, why is he called the “Brewer’s”.
Bob, Brewer’s Blackbirds are named after Thomas Mayo Brewer, and American Ornithologist and naturalist. They are lovely birds.
Wonderful photo Mia, love it:)
Thanks Susan, they are pretty birds.
