Snowy Plover – Nikon D200, handheld, f6.3, 1/2500, ISO 250, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 400mm, natural light
A simple image of a beautiful Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus) in a rather goofy looking pose. The plover had been preening and paused for a few frames with its tail lifted up and its eyes barely open. I couldn’t resist sharing.
Mia
A very cute shot of the Snowy Plover Mia. I love these candid shots when birds are in the midst of their everyday lives. I don’t know if your readers are aware of the fact that the Pacific Coast population of these cute little birds is listed as threatened by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The species also receives some protection through the following state designations: Washington: Endangered; Oregon: Threatened; California: Species of Special Concern; Mississippi: Endangered; Florida: Threatened; Puerto Rico: Threatened; Kansas: Threatened. Larry, thanks so much for your comment on this image and also for posting this information about Snowy Plovers. They are having such a difficult time because of habitat destruction, nest disturbance and more. They do need our help!
Gorgeous capture Mia, so cute
Thanks Dan.
Great contrast and gesture on this one!
Thanks Maria, the lighting I had sure was great and helped with the contrast, a low ISO helped with maximizing the details.
Sweetness! Love the cute Snowy Plover. Exceptional detail!
