I have a fondness for Marbled Godwits because of their pink and black bills and plumage patterns. They also look very elegant walking, standing, feeding and in flight.
Marbled Godwit and shadow – Nikon D200, handheld, f7.1, 1/800, ISO 200, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 400mm, natural light
This Marbled Godwit had been feeding on the mudflats of a tidal lagoon at Fort De Soto’s north beach. I like that I was able to get a nice catch light, a drop of water on the tip of the bill and the shorebird’s shadow.
The coloring of Marbled Godwits make me think of cinnamon, dark chocolate, butterscotch, caramel, Irish Cream and Kahlua.
Life is good.

A wonderful photo of a lovely bird:)
Thanks Susan!
Love it, you’ve captured all those beautiful colors…
Thank you Nicole, their colors are yummy!
Nice Shot Mia.. he seems to be outfitted with sturdier legs..
The Godwit probably had sturdier legs than I did when I photographed it, I had been kneeling for a long time and had lost feeling below my knees! Thanks Stu.
Beautiful image, Mia! I wonder whether the drop hanging off the tip of the beak is salt water excreted from the nasal salt gland. I have several shots of seabirds with a drop at the tip of their beak.
Hilke, I have photos of herons & egrets where the salt water is being excreted from the nasal salt glands too, the first time I saw it I was fascinated! Thanks so much for your comment.
Terrific photo, Mia, I love the shadow!
Thank you PrairieBirder!
Very nice portrait of an impressive bird.
Thank you Dan!
