Northern Mockingbird, Antelope Island State Park, Davis County, Utah Ticked off Northern Mockingbird – Nikon D200, f6.3, 1/1000, ISO 400, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light

As a bird photographer I get to see some get interaction between birds at times, today happened to be one of those days.  A Loggerhead Shrike flew into a sagebrush and right after that I could hear a bird that sounded upset. The upset bird was this Northern Mockingbird. I’m guessing it had a nest in that sagebrush because it was acting so defensive.

Northern Mockingbirds are well known for attacking humans, dogs, cats and other birds that approach their nests. I didn’t see it attack the Loggerhead Shrike but it sure was ticked off.

Antelope Island was a little slow today though we did have opportunities with several birds that turned out well. The good news is that there were very few of the biting gnats! Glad to see them go!

Life is good.
