Black-headed Grosbeaks

Pheucticus melanocephalus

Male Black-headed Grosbeaks during the breeding season are rich orange-cinnamon with a black head and black-and-white wings and tails. Females and immature males are brown above with warm orange or buff on the breast, and some have streaks on the sides of the breast.

I was happy that I decided to photograph the striking Black-headed Grosbeak instead of the Downy Woodpecker that was at least forty feet in front of me.
