Black Rosy-Finches

Leucosticte atrata

Black Rosy-Finches are medium sized finches with black-brown breasts and backs, have a gray band on their heads and their belly, rump and wing patches are pink. Females look similar but are not as pink.

One of the biggest surprises for me on my recent trip to southern Utah was coming across a "bouquet" of 500 or more Black Rosy-Finches that were foraging along the side of Utah State Highway 24.
