Adult Burrowing Owl and the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island State Park, Davis County, UtahAdult Burrowing Owl and the Great Salt Lake

Burrowing Owls are one of my favorite subjects to photograph and to get one perched with the Great Salt Lake in the background was wonderful. This image was taken in August of 2010 as the adult watched over its young that were nearby.  The adult Burrowing Owl even looks a little frazzled to me. Raising young seems to do that in more than one species of birds.

The past few years it has been more difficult to get quality images of the Burrowing Owls on Antelope Island State Park. That is due in part because the burrows seems further away from the road. Many of the owls are now banded or have telemetry units protruding from their backs and they seem far more skittish than they used to be.

Life is good.
