Adult Burrowing Owl and the Great Salt Lake
Burrowing Owls are one of my favorite subjects to photograph and to get one perched with the Great Salt Lake in the background was wonderful. This image was taken in August of 2010 as the adult watched over its young that were nearby. The adult even looks a little frazzled to me what with raising all of its young.
The past few years it has been more difficult to get quality images of the Burrowing Owls on Antelope Island State Park partly because the burrows seems further away from the road, many of them are now banded or have telemetry units protruding from their backs and they seem far more skittish than they used to be.

I LOVE these funny little guys! Small wonder that they’ve moved farther away what with all the leg irons and antennare attached to them…I hate seeing them “knocked up” like that!!!
Beautiful bird, awesome photo 🙂
I really like the composition, with the owl on the left, but looking right, and the amount of space you included on the right. BG is very nice too.
Really really nice one.
