Brown Pelican Double-deckerBrown Pelican Double-Decker – Nikon D200, handheld, f6.3, 1/1250, ISO 200, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 400mm, natural light, not baited

It’s Monday and I didn’t have any idea what to post this morning so I opted to present this image of two Brown Pelicans flying double-decker style over the Gulf of Mexico. The day I created this image the light was variable because there was a storming brewing off the coast and there were tons of birds in the area due to bait fish running just off shore. The gulls, terns, waders and pelicans were having a feast. Brown Pelicans plunge dive to get their prey and these two adults were flying along looking for a place to plunge into the school of bait fish.

I like how one Brown Pelican is looking towards me and the other one seems to be looking straight ahead.
