Adult White-crowned Sparrow on a wire fenceAdult White-crowned Sparrow on a wire fence – Nikon D300, f6.3, 1/2000, ISO 640, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light

In the Centennial Valley of Montana at this time of the year I see plenty of White-crowned Sparrows of the interior west sub-species and although most of them that I see are juveniles there are also adults hanging around foraging too. This adult White-crowned Sparrow was perched on a rusty wire fence along the road and caught my eye as I had my lens aimed high at a Red-tailed Hawk perched on a power pole. The angle was steep for the hawk so I decided to take images of the White-crowned while waiting for the Red-tailed to lift off. I was so focused on the sparrow that I didn’t even see the hawk take off from the pole but I don’t regret taking the images of this lovely adult White-crowned Sparrow.
