Ferruginous Hawk surveying its kingdom – Nikon D300, f6.3, 1/2500, ISO 640, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light, not baited
Ferruginous Hawks fascinate me, they are large, handsome and regal raptors. This one just appears to me to be surveying its kingdom from the top of a ranch gate in the Centennial Valley.
I hope to have more opportunities with Ferruginous Hawks in the near future.
Life is good.

It looks great on that perch!
Thank you Maria.
Awesome shot of an awesome bird.
Thanks Jerry, they really are awesome!!
Gorgeous!
Thank you!
I love these hawks as well. Magical birds that make a lovely V in the sky. They sometimes remind me of winged lions:)
“Winged Lions”, I really like that Chris! It suits them well. Thanks for commenting.
Wonderful photo, Mia!
Thank you Charlotte!
I agree with your description Mia. As a former volunteer at Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s birdshow, I have seen a bird like this up close many times. I recommend this wonderful show of birds, most flying over your head as you watch, to anyone visiting the zoo. Nice to see such a fine example of this bird in the wild — thanks Mia!
Thank you Utahbooklover, seeing these hawks always takes my breath away, I can imagine what it was like to be so close to them at the Hogle Zoo!
