Brewer's Blackbird femaleBrewer’s Blackbird female

One year ago today it was slow on Antelope Island, not many birds were close enough to photograph but on the way home I spotted this female Brewer’s Blackbird on some rocks near one of the bridges on the causeway to the island. I like the setting, the bird’s pose with her raised foot and the wispy grass stalks in the background. She made the trip worth it.

The females are not as colorful as the male Brewer’s Blackbird but they do show a tiny bit of iridescence on the tops of their tails.
