Reddish Egret in Breeding Plumage – Nikon D200, handheld, f7.1, 1/500, ISO 200, Nikkor 80-400mm VR at 180mm, natural light
Just a simple Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) image taken during a low tide at Fort De Soto’s north beach in Florida. This adult Reddish Egret was going into breeding plumage, it has the pink and black bi-colored bill and the lores are turning bluish purple.

Beautiful, Mia. Love that blank expression!
Thank you Hilke!
Love it! Unique and so eye catching!
Thank you Nicole!
Love the way the egret looks like a model posing. Head is slightly turned, legs look like they’re crossed. Really a unique shot. (Not to mention a gorgeous bird!)
Thanks Tami, they do seem like they pose like a model at times.
vury pretty. These Egrets have elegance galore.
Thank you Laurence, they are kind of elegant, most of the time anyway because they can also look rather clownish too!
Head to Toe focus.. Wow is a good description.
Thank you Stu!

Dan, when I first saw this image on my pc monitor it made me say WOW too! The light & bird worked great for this shot. Thanks.
